I grew up in Tremont, Illinois in a family of six children. Along with teaching, I enjoy cooking, sewing, knitting, scrap booking and decorating cakes. One of my sister's has down syndrome, and she inspired me to become a teacher. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a teaching degree in Early Childhood Special Education and Early Childhood Education. I began teaching at a Head Start Program in Indiana, where I discovered I loved working with 3 to 5 year old children and their families.

My background in Special Education has not only taught me how to work with children with special needs, but also how to focus on each child's personal needs in my classroom.
I believe in creating a welcoming and "homey" feeling classroom that invites children to participate and explore through play each day. I promote children's independence by setting up a routine that allows the children to enjoy free play, small group play, and teacher directed play all in one day.

I enjoy expanding a child's knowledge through books, music, art, science, math, and reading opportunities. I love helping children develop the social and emotional skills needed for interacting with their peers and preparing them for their school years to come. My classroom is a busy and cheerful place to be, and you will always find us having some kind of fun!
